What it is
Muse Spark Open is Meta’s open-weight model, released on October 15, 2026. It has 816 billion parameters, of which 42 billion are active for each word it writes, a 1 million token context window, and it understands images as well as text. Meta built it for coding and long, multi-step agent work, and calls it the most capable US open-weight model to date.
Who can use it
Anyone. The weights are free to download from Hugging Face and the big cloud platforms, and hosted versions run on services such as Groq, Together AI, Fireworks AI and OpenRouter. Meta worked with Apple so it runs on a desktop setup of two Mac Studios with M5 Ultra chips.
What it means for you
Open weights matter when your data can’t leave your building: legal, health and finance teams, or anyone with strict privacy rules. For most people the hosted apps are still easier, but a model this strong running on office hardware is new.

How to automate a boring computer task with an AI-written script (no coding experience needed)
You do the same file-renaming or copy-paste job every week and suspect a small script could do it for you.
