What it is
Kimi K3.1 Pro is the first model in Moonshot AI’s K3.1 series and, by Moonshot’s description, its most capable open-weight model yet. It launched on October 23, 2026, alongside a Highspeed version that answers two to three times faster. Moonshot highlights gains in coding, financial research and 3D creation.
On Terminal-Bench 4.0, a test of coding agents, Moonshot reports 65.7%, close to Claude Opus 5.5. That is the company’s own figure, not an independent test.
What it costs
$2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens in the API, with cached input at $0.20. Thinking mode is always on.
What it means for you
Kimi gives you near-frontier coding ability for about half the API price of the top US models. The open weights, once released, will let companies run it on their own servers. If you use the Kimi app, the model is there today.
